Whatever Floats your Boat Updates

Hi all,

I know we previously were talking about having this game up and ready by now, but we’ve been busy working on some other projects we couldn’t say no to.

This doesn’t mean that WFYB 2 isn’t coming, or that the refresh to WFYB isn’t planned, but our team has very limited resources right now and these projects will help open up these other projects to be funded.

Current status

We currently have a working build of WFYB Testing Grounds, which includes the latest Studio Koi Koi technology. This is a 45,000 lines of code changed, and positions us well to release.

However, we haven’t been able to release this due to two reasons. The big thing is we’ve identified key issues that make the game not fun to new players, and this is blocked on making the guns work well on mobile.

Guns and workstream

The mistake I, Quenty, made is making myself a blocker on this project. I haven’t had time to work on this project directly as a programmer since running the Studio and other activities are taking more time, and require my attention. Fortunately we are hiring other programmers and scaling, so this will not be an issue in the long-term, but it did mess up this project.

The gun system we need is here, and is currently being refactored an requires publishing. However, I haven’t had attention to make this work well. Unfortunately, these still aren’t done, and I can’t prioritize this work.

Next steps

Our next steps are to finish our existing projects out to 2026, while we scale the studio. Once we have steady revenue streams in place we can fund the development of WFYB and WFYB 2 in a sustainable way and make a serious plan to get these games back on their feet.

Apology

We’re very sorry for this delay. We know you’ve all been waiting for many years for these games to be made, and they’re important to us too. However, we want to do these projects right, with the right people + technology. Doing this will take time, and success in other projects.

Fortunately, the games we’re making now will have reusable technology we can integrate back into WFYB.

Thank you for your patience and rest assured that WFYB is close to our hearts, and a key part of our history - we won’t forget these, and we hope to find the right time to deliver them to the community.
